Curren$y never fails to have awesome cover art. Earlier today after breaking his foot, veteran New Orleans rapper Curren$y dropped his second music release of the summer. Hosted by DJ Drama, Verde Terrace is filled with chill soulful instrumentals that bump and of course Curren$y murders the tracks lyrically. He has been on the independent grind for a couple of years but now he is doing it big. Curren$y’s new mixtape with Big Sean and Wiz Khalifa is coming soon enough, and it should get him even more coverage now that the aforementioned feature artists are properly blowing up. Curren$y also recently signed a label deal with Warner Bros. Records, which is not an independent label. The Hot Spitta is still one of the most well known independent rappers out right now. He is mostly known for his smoke heavy lyricism and putting Wiz Khalifa on to rolling papers during the How Fly mixtape. I think he deserves much more attention/fame then he already gets. In his career, including his Young Money days with Lil Wayne, the Hot Spitta has dropped 13 mixtapes and six studio albums and has two more on the way.
Listen to or download Verde Terrace here. Features include Dom Kennedy, most of the Jet Life squad, and others. Check out two of my favorite songs off the mixtape below: a remix to the Outkast classic “Elevators (Me & You)” off ATLiens called “Smoke Sum”, and another track called “High Tunes”
