Monthly Archives: January 2012

On April 24th Toro Y Moi fans will be able to purchase a boxset, titled June 2009, that will include several of his unreleased tunes that were presumably recorded before Causers of This. Bundick’s laid-back style of music has pushed me to become a huge fan for the last year or so. Below I have added a couple tracks by the artist, one of them being a piece of the upcoming boxset, along with the track list for the disks. Enjoy!

Disc 1:
01 Best Around
02 Take the L to Leave

Disc 2:
01 Girl Problems
02 Dead Pontoon

Disc 3:
01 Ektelon
02 Drive South

Disc 4:
01 Sad Sams
02 Talamak (First Version)

Disc 5:
01 Warm Frames
02 New Loved Ones

Its been a good day for music so far, to say the least. Two insanely dope mixtapes, first D.Veloped’s Work: Party Mix and now an epic dubstep / mashup Bassnectar mixtape!? Too tough. Not much more needs to be said besides listen to Bassnectar’s Amorphous Music Mixtape Vol. 7 right now, it not only has some new music by him, but it is all in all a mad legit listen. Bump to Bassnectar’s extremely well produced mashup/ dubstep mixtape below:

Bassnectar – Amorphous Music Mixtape Vol 7 by Bassnectar

I don’t know if you guys remember, but a couple months back i posted about this upcoming mashup artist D.Veloped and how much of a beast he was. I showed you a couple of his songs, but here is an entire free mix for download you should be listening to right now. It is so dope how he uses multiple genres in this hella sick, 40 minute long mix. For real, this guy has mad talent and you will notice that after you listen to the Work: Party Mixtape below, i mean he starts the mix off the Workaholics theme song- can’t get much better then that. Check out the track list for the Work: Party mix below and listen / download the mixtape as well.

“Sound construction piece featuring Lips, Erykah Badu, Siri, and Biz Markie backwards. It’s called “Now I Understand” It’s funny and will be available on SoundCloud for one week only!!! Life is beautiful. Music gets you high” said Wayne Coyne, frontman for Oklahoma’s Flaming Lips. As usual for these guys, this track is strange. It contains a female robot, spacey, multilayered elements and is far out. Too far out if you ask me.

Lately we’ve been seeing a bunch of talented freestyles from Meek Mill, the previous being his collaboration with Wale over Drake’s “The Motto” beat. Recently, Mill ended up doing an interview over Angie Martinez’s HOT 97 radio show, and decided he wanted to freestyle. DJ enuff throws on the “Stay Schemin” instrumental (used for Drake and Common’s beef raps), and the rest is history. Check out the freestyle below:

According to a recent interview with NME Magazine, Canadian based band Crystal Castles are starting to record a new album next month in Warsaw, Poland and it is due out for summer 2012. Cannot wait for this release, I’m assuming it will be as out there / amazing as their self titled album that dropped in 2010. They are an extremely talented duo and their unique, unforgettable sound is truly dope. Listen to a throwback Crystal Castles song below as we wait with anticipation for a new single off the album to drop soon!

This music video is pretty cool, its all surrounding a TV being carried around by random people for the entirety of the video. This was one of my favorite tracks off the EP, I liked 12th Planet’s The End Is Near Pt. 1 a lot, although it was only 5 songs- they were all pretty epic. So if you haven’t already, download that EP here. Peep the music video for “The End is Near Pt. 1″ by 12th Planet on Scion AV’s Youtube page here.

Without a doubt, one of the most interesting collaborations of 2011 was keyboardist Ray Manzarek, guitarist Robbie Krieger, and drummer John Densmore,  better known as The Doors, with dubstep producer Skrillex. The Doors are fucking awesome. I could write an entire book on The Doors but that would be beside the point. Anyway, the original rockers teamed up with young Skrillex to record a breakthrough track called “Breakin’ A Sweat” for the Hyundai sponsored Regeneration Music Project. One of Skrillex’s friends, (who’s even younger then him), Anton Zaslavski aka Zedd just released a preview to his remix of “Breakin A Sweat”. Zedd’s remix is an awesome twist to the history making original. It features his signature resonated bass line with a fat kick  that just overall melts face.  Kudos to Zedd.

A month or two ago my boy Teddy put me onto this dude Da$H. I don’t know if you guys remember me talking about him being featured on Ski Beatz upcoming project, but he is hella talented. Residing in Gotham City, New Jersey Da$H is seriously a breathe of fresh of air to the hip hop game, his unique style and flow are something new and unfamiliar for me. I can’t put my finger on who he reminds me of yet, but i am already a huge fan of his mixtape ChRon Burgundy (awesome name, right?) and have continuously listened to it almost daily. He seems like a chill kid who knows how to spit, and tells it like it is. Great production on the mixtape, “Nine-5ive” especially. The guitar riff sample has been stuck in my head for the past two weeks, and the overall good feeling instrumental is tight. Oh yeah, and just to put the cherry on top Blended Babies sampled one of my favorite movies “Blow” starring Johnny Depp for the outro of the track. #GMM

Jack White‘s publicist announced today that the legendary Detroit born, guitar wielding former frontman for everyone’s favorite peppermint colored rock duo, The White Stripes, will be releasing his first solo album. Even though The White Stripes are no longer together, White continues to be in bands such as The Raconteurs and The Dead Weather.  I hope Jack’s new album will have that raunchy, simple, hard hitting, garage like rock attitude that is hard to come by nowadays. Either way, there’s no way I’ll be disappointed. His debut solo album is titled “Blunderbuss” and will be officially available for purchase on April 23rd. You can hear a streaming version of the single “Love Interruption” off of Blunderbuss here. Needless to say, this album is highly anticipated. The man is a true blues/rock icon of our generation.
