I can not stop listening to this mixtape, its literally all I’ve listened to the past week. In my opinion, Joey Bada$$’ 1999 is easily going to be one of the summer’s best mixtapes. At only 17, Joey Bada$$ has some of the best lyrics i have heard in a while, and although he is young he spits with such confidence, and a unique flow that he makes it almost impossible to not listen to him. His choice of instrumentals on the tape were also really dope and all over the place(in a good way). From J Dilla, and Doom beats to Statik Selektah and Chuck Strangers, the production on this mixtape is phenomenal. The over all vibe for Joey Bada$$’ debut mixtape is soulful, 90s-like, summertime hip hop. This dude is easily one of my favorite new rappers, i can’t put my finger on who his flow is similar to yet though; He sometimes has that old school Nas, or Ghostface Killah type of NYC flow, but sometimes he reminds me of Sir Micheal Rocks the way he floats on top of beat with a unique type of wordplay. Whatever it is, Joey Bada$$ knows how to spit and picked some amazing beats to create my favorite mixtape of the summer, 1999. Check out the music videos for “Hardknock” and “Survival Tactics” below, and download Joey Bada$$’ 1999 mixtape HERE now. This dude is new, raw hip hop talent, so don’t miss out on it.
