London based indie/ electronic rock band The xx just exposed us to their new single “Angels” off of their forthcoming album Coexist. There is no questioning that this is a song by the xx, with Romy Madley Croft’s whispering voice gently providing the nostalgic type feel we are used too in their tunes; also accompanied by melodic guitar lines and minor percussion. The new single is elegantly romantic and educes the cunning melancholy vibes of their first album. In the past year band member Jamie Smith (Jamie xx) has done production for artists such as Drake and Gill-Scott Heron, so one could only wonder if there will be a hip-hop/chill-wave/electronic type influence to their new album, which isn’t seen yet in their single “Angels” but somewhat heard on their debut self titled album. Coexist is set to be released September 10th, listen to “Angels” below. Goodlooks Jimbo for help on the write up.
