Reggae

No Doubt has just announced their comeback with a new album dropping September 25. They don’t have a title for it yet but word on the street is that the album is mixed and ready to go. In the meantime the band will be shooting videos and rehearsing for what is most likely going to be a world tour. I for one am hella excited. Their last album “Rock Steady“ dropped in 2001 and was an instant classic. They worked with an array of producers and somehow managed to combine rock, ska, reggae, funk and just so many other styles into one entity of hella good (pun intended) tracks. I personally love how The Neptunes  helped produce that album. This time around No Doubt has teamed up with the one, the only, Major Lazer. It’s truly amazing how many people Diplo (1/2 of Major Lazer) has worked with  recently. Anyway, This album is going to be really interesting. I wonder what their sound is going to be like after all this time. The band was on a brief hiatus in the mid 2000′s when Gwen Stefani went solo. I first heard Gwen Stefani’s voice way back in the day in like elementary school and I’ve been in love with her singing ever since. She’s got to be one of the coolest chicks ever. I mean what other singer has been on a track with Sublime and was a rockstar before becoming a pop star? And now she’s going back to rockstar with the help of guitarist Tom Dumont , bassist Tony Kanal, and drummer Adrian Young. I think they’re definitely going to tour the world after their album drops. This albums going to be fucking awesome, No Doubt. Album doesn’t drop until September but in the meantime check out some in the studio footage of their most likely single “Push And Shove” below.

Even though this video has been out for a little over a month now, I still feel the need to post about it. I definitely overlooked this song when it first came out. I just listened to this track again and damn I am impressed with Ms. Santi White aka Santigold. This woman can really sing! Her voice just resonates incredible verses and beautiful melodies over dub infused textures that are a perfect match. This song is a clash collage of many different genres. It’s got a punky bass line, a distorted guitar riff, faded pads, delayed syncopated reggae piano riffs and it just all comes together so well. “Disparate Youth” is a single taken from her highly anticipated upcoming album Master of My Make Believe. I hope it’s got more tracks similar to “Disparate Youth”. Her album drops here in the states on May 1st. I for one am stoked to see what it’s going to sound like overall. Who knows maybe it’ll even be the first album I’ve purchased in a while? Peep the video below. Oh yeah, one more thing, I was super high when I read the song title and I just want to point out that it’s called “DISPARATE youth” not to be misread as “desperate youth”. You can look up the definition of disparate for yourself.

Bob Marley was one of music’s most peaceful and inspiring artists of all time, his music was and always will be extremely powerful, and he will forever be one of my favorite musical artists. So after seeing this trailer yesterday i was more then stoked. “Marley: The Life, Music and Legacy of Bob Marley” will be directed by Oscar-winning documentary maker Kevin Macdonald, and the film has been called the definitive biography of reggae legend Bob Marley, aided by the singer’s family and record label who have given the project their blessing. Not only is this the first “authorized” movie made about Bob Marley, but also the movie will feature never before seen live footage and previously unheard tracks. Dope. Check out the trailer below, and be sure to check out this movie when it comes out on 4/20 On Demand (for all you lazy stoners) and in theaters!
